As an industry-leader with more than 6,500 employees, BHI Energy manages over 200 different trade unions. Due to the dynamic nature of staffing volumes, BHI’s back-end processes have been complex and time-consuming. Like many large engineering and construction companies, BHI Energy was also facing challenges in hiring, training, and onboarding union and non-union employees efficiently while navigating significant seasonal staffing fluctuations.

Many of the company’s operational tasks, such as timesheets, scheduling, billing and invoicing, were managed primarily on paper and excel sheets. Recruiting, onboarding and background checks were an array of emails and phone calls. Manual uploads of time to multiple payroll systems created payroll errors and HR was a nightmare. As we all know, more manual work brings in more errors that are best fixed by automation. Such challenges also impacted the company’s customers, as clients invoices had to be corrected and manually reconciled with approved time. Phew!

What BHI Energy needed – IMMEDIATELY – was an automated, error-free, time-saving INTEGRATED ONE solution. A system that would constantly look ahead and plan for their employees and projects, while paying people (both union and non-union) accurately on time. CEM Business Solutions was contracted with implementing their Union Payroll solution (first choice for BHI Energy) along with the Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations software platform. CEM and their consultants brought their domain expertise of accelerating core critical processes in the EPC industry along with HR and Payroll knowledge to help automate the fragmented BHI processes into a ONE BHI best practice.

BHI Energy also added several of CEM’s ISV addon modules in construction that accelerate people, compliance and operations management. In all, CEM Business Solutions and BHI Energy struck a long-term, trustworthy partnership to implement industry best practices that unify and automate its business processes to seamlessly connect people, processes and data.
